The Best Little Prison in Britain?, part one, review: rough justice for viewers – The Telegraph

They don’t normally set docusoaps in prisons. Posh hotels, department stores, airports, yes. But places where offenders are banged up for drug dealing? In The Best Little Prison in Britain? (ITV), the bright idea has been to say something positive about incarceration.

The title jauntily evokes a fictional Texan whorehouse, which feels a tad inappropriate before we’ve even started. The good news about Jurby Prison is that it has pretty much the lowest reoffending rate in Europe. It wasn’t mentioned, but this may be because on the Isle of Man people get banged up for the nicking pork pies, attacking seagulls, and not displaying a tax disc. This surely skews the stats.
