People who claim they don’t have to pay for their prescriptions, must be able to prove it.

It comes following a recent audit on a random sample of prescription forms, which showed patients have claimed free prescriptions when they’re not entitled to do so.

The DHSC says currently 90 per cent of prescriptions in the Island are dispensed free of charge to patients.
Minister for the Department of Health and Social Care David Ashford said ‘In the Isle of Man, as in the UK, the system relies largely on the honesty of the patient. Fraudulently claiming exemption is taking money from the health service which could be better spent elsewhere.’

The Department will contact those who were  identified in the audit as potentially claiming free prescriptions wrongly.
