Plans to introduce no-fault divorces on Island will go before the House of Keys this week.

The Divorce Bill – a private member’s bill brought forward by Garff MHK Daphne Caine is tabled for its second reading this Friday (May 15).

The proposals would see an end to the two-year separation needed for couples to end their marriage amicably.

Draft laws under consideration would make it simpler to dissolve a civil partnership and remove the need to cite adultery or unreasonable behaviour to get a divorce.

And in a recent public consultation 94 per cent of respondents supported reforming the law on these lines on the Isle of Man.
