Primary school headteachers could be set to take action over a pay dispute with the Department of Education, Sport & Culture (DESC) next week.

The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) union – which represents them – confirmed members will take action short of a strike on Tuesday, September 3 unless the government agrees to further talks.

President of the NAHT Isle of Man branch, Max Kelly, says teachers deserve a ‘fair deal for the vital work they do’ and the door remains open for negotiations to avoid any disruption.

The DESC has already said providing a high standard of education to Island students is the central focus for the department and it’s working to mitigate any potential impact to students and staff.
