The government wants to increase the amount of cycling facilities at an Island high school.

The Department of Infrastructure wants to build shelters at QEII High School in Peel capable of housing up to 60 bicycles – with 40 spaces for students and 20 for staff.

Last month, the DOI said it’s creating infrastructure to support the Active Travel Strategy to get people walking and/or cycling to and from work or school – bike shelters are planned to be installed at Ballakermeen High School and Ramsey Grammar School.

The aim of the strategy, officials say, is to see more than 20 per cent of the population travelling actively by the time information is gathered for the 2021 census.
