A man caught behind the wheel without his R-plates on twice in three weeks has narrowly escaped a driving ban.

Lawrence William Hedivan of Auldyn Walk in Ramsey admitted two charges of failing to display R-plates and one of speeding when he appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

The hearing was told he’d been spotted by police on May 27 without both R-plates on his Lexus, and on June 6 was caught doing 80 miles an hour in a 50 limit on Main Road in Glen Mona – again without his R-plates on.

Hedivan’s advocate said his client was a van driver who already had six points on his licence and would lose his livelihood if he received a ban.

The 24 year old was fined a total of £650 and ordered to pay £100 costs, and magistrates put five points on his licence leaving him just one point away from being banned from the roads.
