A main highway in St John’s has re-opened after long-term improvement works.

The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed Curragh Road between the Ballacraine traffic lights and the Western Civic Amenity site has now re-opened to traffic.

The initiative there has taken slightly longer than previously planned due to restrictions during the Coronavirus pandemic before work restarted again in late April when those in the construction trade were given permission to return to work.

The DOI adds motorists should be aware that contractors are still in the area finishing ancillary works and continuing engineering efforts at the Ballacraine junction.

Officials say work at the junction is part of a project to replace traffic lights there which, they say, are reaching the end of their design life.
