Coastguards came to the aid of a vessel which got into difficulty in the West of the Island yesterday.

Peel and Castletown coastguards were called to Peel Bay just after 7am on Sunday (September 29) to a yacht with two people on board which had dragged its anchor and was being smashed against the groyne.

Crews attached a line to pull the craft into deeper water – the duo aboard the boat were then taken to station to check for injuries and teams established the yacht hull hadn’t been breached and no water had been taken on.

Officials have praised the personnel which undertook the operation in what’s been described as ‘life threatening conditions’.
